Choose the screen for the task

The outer screen is relevant to quick interactions when opening the device would add friction. The inner screen matters when the content or workflow benefits from more space. Think in terms of tasks rather than assuming that a larger diagonal always makes every app more useful.

When comparing display sizes, consider the shape of the content too. A video, a long message and two side-by-side apps use space differently. Diagonal inches do not directly measure the area available to any one of those tasks.

Separate brightness, refresh and surface treatment

Peak outdoor brightness is a defined maximum, not a fixed operating level. Adaptive refresh is designed to vary with content. Apple’s nano-texture description concerns surface reflections and visibility; it is not proof of an invisible crease or immunity to scratches.

• Check text and app scaling at your preferred settings.
• Inspect reflections under the lighting you commonly use.
• Read the crease and durability guides before treating the inner screen like rigid glass.

Continuity is a software question as well

An app opening on both screens is not the same as an app having a carefully adapted layout. The software and apps guides distinguish Apple’s announced capabilities from promises about every third-party app. Your own important apps deserve checking before purchase.

There is no PhoneHelp color-accuracy, flicker or outdoor-readability test in this edition. Those questions remain open until suitable measurements or clearly attributed independent evidence exist.
