iPhone Duo eSIM: check the plan before the transfer

The direct answer

eSIM only; carrier and plan support required. In the U.S., the correct activation route depends on how the phone is purchased and the carrier. A supported device does not mean every plan or cross-border transfer works the same way.

Hardware support is not a carrier approval

Apple’s store describes carrier-connected and connect-later purchase paths. The appropriate setup can differ with the operator and order. Check your account, plan and any locking conditions rather than assuming that an eSIM-only phone is ready to use on every network.

An activation QR code or transfer prompt can have operator-specific conditions. Do not share it publicly, buy an unofficial activation service or repeatedly delete profiles without understanding the consequences.

Preserve access while you move the line

Keep the old phone and existing service available until the new line is working. Account recovery, banking and sign-in verification may still depend on it. Device-data transfer and cellular-plan transfer are separate tasks; finishing one does not prove the other is complete.

  • Confirm support for your exact model and plan with the operator.
  • Have a reliable internet connection and account access ready.
  • Check calls, messages and data before retiring the old phone.

Regional exceptions are part of the answer

Mainland China has a specifically documented local model and identity-verification context. That is why a generic U.S. transfer description must not be copied into the Chinese edition. Overseas use also needs carrier and plan confirmation.

If activation fails, record the error and ask the operator to check provisioning before erasing the device. PhoneHelp cannot provision a line, override a carrier restriction or verify a customer account.
