Make a short essential-app list

Start with the apps that would prevent you from using the phone if they did not work as expected. Include authentication, work documents, payments and the services you rely on while traveling. A long list of installed apps is less useful than a clear set of necessary tasks.

For each one, distinguish basic compatibility from an optimized large-screen interface. A launch screen is not evidence that sign-in, file selection, video calls and switching between displays all work well.

Ask the developer-specific question

Look for a current support statement from the app developer, not a generic claim that an operating system supports apps. Managed work software may also require approval from your organization. Do not bypass management controls to reproduce a promotional demonstration.

• Can the essential task be completed on the required software version?
• Does layout remain usable with a keyboard visible?
• Is the behavior confirmed for the exact app, account and device scope?

Keep an alternative while evaluating

Retain a reliable way to access important services until the new workflow has been verified. A broad app migration does not guarantee that local credentials, licenses or offline material will be ready at once.
