Inventory before copying

Identify what exists only on the old phone and what is already synchronized elsewhere. Photos, downloaded files and app databases can follow different rules. Check the latest backup and your ability to access the account associated with it before making changes.

If you are switching platforms, use the appropriate official migration documentation rather than assuming an Apple-to-Apple path. Paid licenses, managed-work access and authentication apps may require separate arrangements with their provider.

Keep both devices available during the process

Follow the current official requirements for the selected transfer method. Keep power and a reliable connection available, and avoid interrupting a process simply because it takes longer than an unverified online estimate.

Duo’s retail interface has not been tested by PhoneHelp. We do not illustrate fictional prompts or promise a transfer duration. If a prompt involves deleting, replacing or signing out of data, understand its scope before accepting it.

Check the result by category

A useful completion check opens the things you need, not just the home screen. Confirm a sample of important files and app access. Separately test calling, messages and mobile data on the new device, then verify that important account recovery methods still work.

• Files: accessible and complete where they matter.
• Apps: signed in, with required local content or service access.
• Line: calls, SMS and cellular data confirmed.
• Recovery: a working way back into essential accounts.

If something is missing

Keep the original intact and identify which category failed. A carrier issue is not usually established by a missing photo, and an app sign-in issue is not proof that the whole phone transfer failed. Use the appropriate provider’s current guidance.

Do not repeat an erase-and-restore cycle without knowing which source copy is complete. Preserving the working device and documenting the exact message gives support more useful information than progressively deleting possible recovery paths.
