eSIM Help

Troubleshoot Pixel eSIM setup, transfer and activation while identifying carrier requirements and avoiding unnecessary profile deletion.

QUICK ANSWER / READ FIRST

The shortest useful answer.

Confirm Wi-Fi, check that the carrier supports eSIM for the phone and account, keep the old phone available for approval, and have the device IMEI ready. Do not delete a working eSIM profile as a routine first step.

Check these items first

  1. Connect the new phone to reliable Wi-Fi.
  2. Confirm the carrier account and plan support eSIM for the device.
  3. Keep the old phone powered and available for transfer approval.
  4. Have the account PIN or transfer PIN ready if required.
  5. Use the correct IMEI or device ID for the new phone.
  6. Check whether the carrier issued a QR code or activation code.

Do not assume that moving apps and data also moved the phone number.

Add an eSIM on Pixel

The setup flow may offer mobile service during onboarding. If you finish setup without it, use the SIM settings later.

The exact wording can vary. Select the documented carrier method shown for your account.

Transfer from another Android phone

Google documents Android-to-Android automatic eSIM transfer requirements that include Android 12 or later on the old phone, current Google Play services and a screen lock. The carrier must also support the transfer.

If the automatic option is absent, use the carrier’s app, QR code, activation code or support process instead of repeatedly resetting the phone.

Transfer from iPhone

iPhone-to-Pixel eSIM transfer support depends on the carrier. Some carriers require a new QR code or direct account action even when the same number and plan are used.

Keep the iPhone and carrier account accessible until calls, text and mobile data work on the new phone.

If activation fails

  • Restart the new phone once after the carrier reports completion.
  • Check the carrier account for a pending approval or mismatched device.
  • Confirm the QR code has not expired or already been consumed.
  • Avoid switching between several activation methods at the same time.
  • Contact the carrier when its own account, code or eligibility check fails.

What not to do

  • Do not delete a working eSIM as the first troubleshooting step.
  • Do not publish or send a QR code, account PIN or full device identifier to an unverified party.
  • Do not promise iPhone or Android transfer support without checking the carrier.
  • Do not factory-reset the phone for an account eligibility failure.

When to contact the carrier

Use carrier support for plan eligibility, account verification, expired codes, line provisioning, device enrollment and transfers that its system rejects. Phone Help and the phone manufacturer cannot change a carrier account.

FAQ / 02

Questions about this guide.

Q01Why does eSIM activation depend on the carrier?

The carrier controls plan eligibility, device enrollment, activation codes, transfer support and any account verification required.

Q02Should I delete my eSIM and start again?

Not unless official carrier or manufacturer guidance specifically tells you to and you have a confirmed reactivation path. Deletion can remove service from the phone.
