Before you connect the phones

Prepare the transfer so a preventable interruption does not become a reset:

• back up the source phone and confirm the backup date;
• charge both phones and keep power available;
• update the source phone if an update is already required for transfer;
• connect to stable Wi-Fi;
• find the source phone’s screen-lock PIN;
• check how much storage the selected data uses;
• keep a compatible cable and adapter if you plan a wired move.

During setup, choose the option to copy apps and data. The flow may offer cable, wireless or QR-assisted connection depending on the source device and software.

1. Unlock the Android phone and approve the requested connection.
2. Keep both phones close and powered.
3. Select the accounts and data you want to copy.
4. Review the estimated size before the transfer starts.
5. Leave the connection in place until the new Pixel reports that copying is complete.

Some apps finish downloading later. A completed setup screen does not guarantee that every app has finished restoring its own data.

iPhone to Pixel 11

The Pixel setup flow can copy supported content from iPhone. Keep the iPhone unlocked and follow the cable or wireless method offered on screen.

Before the move, check any service that uses device-specific security or a separate cloud account. Authenticator apps, encrypted message history, health data and app subscriptions may require their own export, login or transfer procedure.

eSIM transfer from iPhone is a separate carrier-dependent question. Completing data transfer does not prove that the mobile line has moved.

Cable, wireless or cloud restore

Cable can be useful for a large local library and avoids depending entirely on Wi-Fi quality. Use a known-good data cable, not a charge-only cable.

Wireless or QR-assisted transfer avoids an adapter and can be convenient when both phones support the offered flow. Keep them close and avoid switching networks.

Cloud restore uses a prior backup during setup. Confirm the backup belongs to the correct account and device before accepting it.

Add data after setup

Google documents Android Switch for post-setup transfer on Pixel 9 and later. The exact option can depend on the software version and what was already restored.

Only one previous device can be used for some post-setup restore flows before a reset is required. Do not experiment with a second source phone until you have checked the official flow for the software shown on your Pixel.

If transfer stops

Work through the reversible causes first:

1. Reconnect both phones to power.
2. Unlock the source phone and look for an approval prompt.
3. Reseat the cable or use another known-good data cable.
4. Keep wireless devices close and on the same stable network.
5. Compare the selected data size with free storage on the new Pixel.
6. Reduce the selection if the new phone cannot hold it.
7. Retry the method offered by the setup flow before considering a reset.

What not to do

• Do not delete the source backup because the first transfer attempt stopped.
• Do not reset the new phone before checking power, connection, permission and storage.
• Do not erase the old phone based only on an estimated completion percentage.
